How to use?

Nutrition Plan Routine

  • Pre-workout: Mix 1 serving with 8-12 oz water and shake vigorously, or add to food and stir until smooth. Consume 30-45 minutes before your workout. One serving delivers 60-90 minutes of sustained energy. For longer or more intense workouts, fuel with multiple servings of UCAN for extended energy.
  • Mixing tips: Add desired amount of water to shaker bottle before adding UCAN powder. Add powder to water and shake vigorously. For a smoother consistency, let chill for a few hours or up to 48 hours. Shake again immediately before consuming.
  • During workout: Drink a serving of UCAN every 60-90 minutes during longer endurance workouts. Most athletes “feed” with UCAN and consume a serving over 5-10 minutes rather than sipping it slowly like a traditional sports drink. Practice and see what works best for you.
  • How to Make a UCAN Gel: Mixing your UCAN into a “gel” form is a convenient way to carry and consume UCAN for endurance athletes training and competing for several hours. Add one serving of UCAN to a bowl. Slowly pour water into the bowl (use 2-4 oz per serving) and stir vigorously until the UCAN is a paste-like consistency. Transfer to a gel flask and consume during exercise.

    I started looking for something a few months back to replace Hammer’s Sustained Energy & Perpetuem for my during bike workout fuel (like Hammer, but wasn’t 100% happy with the occasional gastric issues and the soy protein). So I researched and got some UCAN, Infinit and Scratch. I got, and tried the UCAN Energy before the others arrived. At first I was incredibly skeptical about the serving suggestions (i.e., about 90 cal per hr, even preloading it for multiple hrs). I have been consuming 200 – 300 cal/hr with other products, never pre-loading only. Well, I have found it to be amazingly true! Not only does pre-loading 90 cal for an hour, 135 for 1.5hrs and 180 cal for 2 hrs keep me going without ANY desire for more fuel, the energy feels sooo much more stable than any product I have ever used! I also feel more focused during the workouts. I immediately also started using it as a pre-load for my runs (replacing during run Hammer Heed or Gels) as well. It is soooo amazing to not have any gastric issues (being able to only consume water and electrolytes during the workout). Although I tried the Scratch Sport Super fuel and Infinit (as I ordered them) they have no chance compared to UCAN. I am now a UCAN disciple (and will force myself to occasionally use up the other products I have an inventory of)!
    As for flavors, I find Tropical Orange my favorite for anything up to 1 1/3 scoops (135 cal) per 24 oz of water (so it is my anything up to 10 miles run pre-wo fuel and my pre-swim fuel and during long bikes after the 2 hr pre-load is used up. For 2+ hrs (so 2+ scoops preload) I love the Cocoa.
    Can’t wait to get back to real triathlons/run races again. I can’t even imagine how amazing it will be to be able to essentially use 1 type of nutrition all the way through!

    For the month of October, Desi Linden was doing a running plan called #RunDestober where she ran a mile for the day of the month. The first few days were achievable but once we started to get to the 20th it became something beyond mere mortals. On the last day of the month, I dedicated the day to go the distance. I’ve never gone 50K so really didn’t know how it was going to go. At 5 miles, really started to think this wasn’t going to be my day. At 10 miles, the thought of going another 21 seemed out of the question. Even at 15 miles, I still wasn’t even half way there. Not sure exactly when but something kicked in where the mental side took over to where I started believing this was possible. I realized this must be the UCAN helping me push to the finish. Late that evening, I reached the 31 mile mark. Two days before my 65th birthday. Even more unbelievable was the next day. My son asked me how I felt and I told him not much different from a long run. The light bulb goes on. Must be the recovery drink. I’m thoroughly convinced that once the based is achieved the mental side is what’s going to propel you to the next level and UCAN definitely helped me get there.

    I use the Tropical Orange UCAN before my 6am CrossFit workout or 5:30am track workout. It is too early to eat anything at that hour, so I love that the products are easy on my gut and provide me the energy I need to lift just a bit heavier than my last class or run a bit faster.
