Energy Powder Australia

Slow release energy drink powder, no added sugar

No added sugar. No stimulants. This energy powder runs on LIVSTEADY, a slow release carbohydrate that keeps energy coming for 90 minutes per scoop.

A slow release carbohydrate drink, powered by LIVSTEADY

LIVSTEADY is a hydrothermally cooked non-GMO corn starch. That process builds an unusually large carbohydrate molecule, which is what lets it clear the stomach quickly and then break down slowly further along. One scoop delivers 20 to 22 g of carbohydrate, depending on the flavour, released across 90 minutes rather than 20. 2 scoops before a marathon carry you through the first hour without eating on the run.

What no added sugar means on this label

No added sugar in any flavour, and no maltodextrin or fructose. Unflavoured, Lemon and Chocolate declare 0 g sugars per scoop, Tropical Orange less than 1 g.Each flavour uses one sweetener: stevia leaf extract in Chocolate, Rebaudioside A from stevia in Lemon, monk fruit extract in Tropical Orange. Unflavoured has one ingredient, LIVSTEADY non-GMO corn starch.

Why Energy Powder contains no maltodextrin

Maltodextrin sits in almost every endurance powder on the shelf because it is cheap and it dissolves easily. The trade is that it behaves much like simple sugar once it reaches your gut, so it brings the same osmotic load and the same short energy window.Energy Powder uses LIVSTEADY instead, a single-source complex carbohydrate with a molecular weight roughly a thousand times higher. Nothing in the scoop is there to give you a fast hit.

Which energy powder should you buy

What makes a no added sugar energy drink powder different

Most pre-workout and endurance powders run on maltodextrin blends, fast sugars, or stimulant stacks. Maltodextrin hits fast and leaves fast, which is why the standard advice is to drink through the session and hope your gut keeps up. Stimulants push you into the workout but do nothing to keep you there.

Energy Powder works on a different carbohydrate. LIVSTEADY is a large-molecule complex carbohydrate made from non-GMO corn, with a molecular weight of 500,000 to 700,000 g/mol against 100 to 500 for maltodextrin. Bigger molecules leave the stomach quickly and release their energy across 90 minutes rather than 20.

One scoop carries 20 g of carbohydrate and 0 g of sugar. You take it once before you start, and it stays with you.

How much energy powder do you need by distance

Work on 1 scoop before every session under 90 minutes, 2 scoops before anything longer, and stack Edge gels on top once you cross 90 minutes. Heavier athletes and hot conditions push you toward the top of each range.

DistanceTypical timeEnergy Powder scoopsAdd Edge gelsAdd Hydrate
10 km40 to 60 min1 beforeOnly if racing hardOnly in heat
Half marathon1h 30 to 2h 152 before1 to 2 during1 bottle
Marathon3h to 4h 302 before2 to 3 during1 to 2 bottles
Half Ironman (70.3)4h 30 to 6h 301 before + 1 on bike3 to 5 during2 to 3 bottles
Full Ironman10h to 14h1 before + 2 to 3 on bike8 to 11 during4+ bottles
50 km ultra5h to 8h1 before + 1 mid-run5 to 7 during3+ bottles

Everyone lands somewhere different. Treat these as a starting point and refine over two or three long sessions. LIVSTEADY takes 30 minutes to come online, so take Energy Powder before you start, not once you have started fading.

Why athletes with sensitive stomachs switch to UCAN Energy Powder

If sugary pre-workouts or maltodextrin drinks wreck your stomach, the drink is rarely the problem. The volume of fast sugar is. Standard endurance powders load 30 to 40 grams of maltodextrin per serving, dragging water into your intestine at exactly the moment your body has diverted blood flow away from digestion.

Energy Powder carries no fast sugar at all. The low osmolality of LIVSTEADY means less fluid gets pulled into the gut, which is why athletes who gave up on pre-workouts come back to this one. Start with Unflavoured or a single tub, test it before two long runs at race pace, and only take it into a race once you have proven it twice in training.

Rated 5 out of 5

UCAN is a game-changer for energy and recovery. I wasn’t worried about rescuing my body from a crash, instead I had consistent energy levels that allowed me to focus on running, not fueling. Being able to have energy without sugar really made a big difference for me, especially later in my career.”

How to use Energy Powder

Same 3 steps for every flavour. The timing is the part people get wrong on the first try.

1

Scoop

1 scoop (25 g) into 240 to 350 ml of cold water. Chocolate also works with milk. Unflavoured goes into your UCAN Hydrate bottle or a smoothie.

2

Shake

Shake for 10 seconds. LIVSTEADY needs a moment to disperse. Use cold liquid, not hot, or the texture changes. Shake again before the last mouthful if it has stood a while.

3

Drink, 30 minutes before

Allow 30 minutes to work. Take it before you need the energy, not once you have started fading. That window is what makes 1 scoop last 90+ minutes.

Before a session under 90 minutes

1 scoop, 30 minutes before. Nothing else needed. Add UCAN Hydrate in the bottle when it is hot or humid.

Before a long session or race

2 scoops, 30 minutes before, so you start with energy already on board. Carry UCAN Edge gels for the top up on course and keep UCAN Hydrate in the bottle. Practise it on 2 long sessions before race day.

Energy Powder, Edge gels or Hydrate: which one when

3 products, 3 jobs. Most UCAN endurance athletes use all 3 across a long day. Energy powder is the one you take first.

Energy Powder FAQ

30 minutes before you start. LIVSTEADY is a slow-release carbohydrate, so it needs about half an hour to be active. Take it 30 minutes before you plan to feel the energy, not right before the gun.

Most runners take 2 scoops 30 minutes before the start. That loads you with LIVSTEADY so you begin the race with energy already onboard, not fighting to catch up 20 minutes in. Add Edge gels through the race and Hydrate for fluid.

Yes. Zero sugar, zero stimulants. LIVSTEADY is a complex non-GMO corn starch, not a fast sugar or a sweetener blend. The Chocolate, Tropical Orange and Lemon flavours are sweetened with stevia and monk fruit. The Unflavoured is only LIVSTEADY.

Maltodextrin is a fast carbohydrate that hits your bloodstream in 20 to 30 minutes and drops off. LIVSTEADY is a slow carbohydrate that releases over 90 minutes. Different job. Maltodextrin works during long efforts when you already need a fast top-up. LIVSTEADY works before and across the session as your steady base.

Chocolate is the everyday favourite, drink it with milk or water. Tropical Orange and Lemon are lighter and mix well with water for hot weather. Unflavoured is designed to mix into your UCAN Hydrate bottle or a smoothie without adding taste.

30 servings per tub. Most Australian athletes get about a month of training from one tub. Marathon and Ironman athletes go through a tub in two to three weeks.

One scoop into 250 to 350ml of cold water, milk or Hydrate, then shake for 10 seconds. Cold water works best. Do not use hot water, it changes the texture.

Yes, it is the format most UCAN marathoners use for pre-race fuelling. Take 2 scoops 30 minutes before the start, then use Edge gels through the race and Hydrate for fluid. See our full Marathon Fuelling Guide for the exact protocol.

Same LIVSTEADY carbohydrate, different jobs. Energy Powder is your pre-session base, mixed with water and drunk 30 minutes before you start. Edge gels are portable fuel you carry on course. Most UCAN marathoners use both: powder before the gun, 2 to 3 gels across the race.
