Most pre workouts are a caffeine delivery system with flavouring on top. That works until you train after five, or you have already had two coffees, or the scoop that used to be enough stops being enough. There is another way to do it, and it does not involve stimulants at all.

The difference is not how much caffeine is in the tub. It is what the product is actually trying to do.
A stimulant changes how you feel. It masks fatigue, sharpens focus, and makes you feel ready at the door. A carbohydrate changes what your muscles have to work with. Only one of those is still doing something ninety minutes into a session.
| Standard pre workout | UCAN Energy Powder | |
|---|---|---|
| Caffeine | 150 to 300mg, two to three coffees | None |
| Other stimulants | Often several | None |
| Carbohydrate | Usually none | 22g LIVSTEADY |
| How long it lasts | 60 to 90 minutes, then it wears off | 90+ minutes, released gradually |
| Take it at 6pm? | Not if you want to sleep | Yes |
| Tolerance builds | Yes, the dose creeps up | No, it is food not a stimulant |
| Sugar | Varies | Under 1g |
| Sweetened with | Sucralose, commonly | Monk fruit or stevia |
Almost nobody starts here. People arrive after something stops working.
Caffeine has a half life of five to six hours. Take 200mg at 6pm and roughly half of it is still in you at midnight. Most people who train after work eventually end up choosing between the session and the sleep.
Two coffees before lunch plus a 250mg pre workout is a lot of caffeine in one day. Fuelling a session does not have to mean stacking more on top of what you already take.
Tolerance to caffeine builds. What worked at one scoop stops working, so you take two. A carbohydrate does not do that. The serve you take in a year is the serve you take today.
The timing is the same whatever the session. One scoop in 500ml of water, thirty to forty five minutes before you start. What changes is that there is no hour of the day where it becomes a bad idea.
| Session | When to take it | How much |
|---|---|---|
| 5am session, fasted start | 30 minutes before, in 500ml water | 1 serve |
| Lunchtime gym, 45 to 60 min | 30 to 45 minutes before | 1 serve |
| After work, 6 to 8pm | 30 minutes before, no impact on sleep | 1 serve |
| Two sessions in a day | Before each one | 1 serve each |
| Long session, 90 min plus | Before, then top up on the move | 1 serve plus a gel |
Sessions past ninety minutes need topping up. That is where sugar free energy gels come in, on the same LIVSTEADY base so your stomach only ever deals with one carbohydrate.
LIVSTEADY is a complex carbohydrate made from non-GMO corn, hydrothermally cooked without chemicals or enzymes. It is not maltodextrin, it is not fructose, and it is not a sugar. The molecule is large and heavily branched, which is why it takes longer to break down and releases gradually rather than all at once.
That matters for a pre workout because caffeine masks fatigue without adding anything to work with. LIVSTEADY does the opposite. It will not make you feel switched on at the door, and it will still be doing its job at minute eighty.
It also means no tolerance. You do not need more of it over time, because your body is not adapting to a stimulus. One scoop today, one scoop in a year.
Same 22g of LIVSTEADY in each. Only the taste changes. 28 serves per tub, roughly a month of training for most people.

Monk fruit sweetened, 170mg sodium. The most popular of the four.

Mixes with water or milk. The one that feels least like a supplement.

It will not give you the hit that 300mg of caffeine gives you. If what you want from a pre workout is the buzz, this is the wrong product and we would rather say so. What it does is give your working muscles carbohydrate to run on, for ninety minutes or more, at any hour of the day.
Is UCAN Energy Powder really caffeine free?
Yes. Zero caffeine and no other stimulant, in all four flavours. It is a carbohydrate powder, not a stimulant blend, so there is nothing in it that affects sleep or heart rate.
Can I take it at night?
Yes, and that is the main reason people switch to it. Caffeine has a half life of five to six hours, so a 200mg pre workout at 6pm leaves roughly 100mg in your system at midnight. Energy Powder has none, so an evening session costs you nothing in sleep.
Will it give me the same kick as a caffeinated pre workout?
No, and we would rather tell you that than sell you the wrong product. There is no buzz, no tingle and no rush at the door. What you get is carbohydrate your muscles can use for ninety minutes or more, which is a different thing and shows up later in the session rather than at the start.
How long before training should I take it?
Thirty to forty five minutes. One scoop in 500ml of water, shaken. It does not need food alongside it and it does not need timing around a meal.
Can I use it alongside coffee?
Yes. Plenty of people have their usual coffee and take Energy Powder for the fuelling. The two do different jobs and there is nothing in Energy Powder that clashes with caffeine.
Does it build tolerance?
No. Tolerance builds to stimulants, not to carbohydrate. The serve that works now is the serve that works in twelve months.
Is there sugar in it?
Under one gram per serve. It is sweetened with monk fruit or stevia depending on the flavour, and there is no sucralose.
Where does it ship from?
Dandenong South, Victoria. Order before noon on a business day and it goes out the same day. Free shipping on orders over $220.
